Assessment:
At this point, I have completed my Original work and am in the process of submitting it to Mr. Green. I have had to compile an extensive list of everything I have done and have to send it in a folder altogether. Since my last research assessment, I have added even more information to my paper and completed my blueprint. Before I delve into the changes I will describe my original work and why I have it, the following is from my original work description: What is LEED? “LEED is a green building program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to promote environmentally friendly architecture. By rating buildings on sustainable construction, design, and operation, LEED can reward designers with official certification and Incentives like tax credits, property tax reductions, fee reductions or waivers, grants, and revolving loan funds.” What is my Original Work? “This document and the Blueprint that comes with it are designed to aid designers and architects with a basic model of what a LEED-certified design looks like and what goes into a LEED certification. This Paper will break down all of the components of the LEED home and explain how and why different appliances work. The blueprint serves as a visual guide to understand better how the appliances work together in a home and how design is involved in receiving the most certification points. With this paper and blueprint, a designer or architect should be able to produce a LEED-certified home, as long as the steps are followed and the application of knowledge is seamless.” Now that we have a basis of information we can delve into changes. I have now added more to my description of all of the items in the LEED house itself, I added insulation because I originally forgot about that important environmental aspect. Another thing I changed was adding a Tips section. In this section, I added things like: “Some HOAs and cities do not like certain plants, building materials, or devices. Make sure you are in accordance with your HOA or City rules.” and “Gray water collection can be a great addition to your home. It is not an appliance, but rather just directing your sink, bath, and shower water to your sprinkler system.” These little additions to my original work boost its value and make it easier for designers to create their dream LEED home. These additions are essential and should also add some uniqueness to my OW. Finally, the last change I made was revising the citations page. My original citation page was not in the correct format and was not in alphabetical order. If an actual designer or architect saw this I would quickly lose credibility with them. To fix this problem I indented my citations to make them more professional and then changed it to alphabetical so that it would be easier to work with for designers and architects. All in all, these improvements have tremendous potential to improve my impact on designers. The little things do in fact matter, like alphabetical order can allow for easy access to citations, and tips like HOA’s not being tolerant of certain items is very valuable knowledge and may lead to someone avoiding the financial cost of buying something that can’t use and the hassle of uninstalling it.
