Subject: Original Work Final and Overview
Assessment:
Over the past month I have been developing my Original work, many hours have been spent looking through websites on different devices and meticulously installing said devices into a blueprint. All of this work has finally come to an end because I have completed it! All 15 glorious pages are complete! This investment of time and effort has taken a lot of work and commitment, especially when working through the finals month of school. However, besides these adversities I still completed it. This assessment will be an overview of all of the work I have completed from beginning to end.
Let's begin with my introduction: I begin my paper with a hook, which is “What is LEED”. This is an important question because most people are not familiar with the term. I then define it as a “ green building program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to promote environmentally friendly architecture. “
After this, I began to explain what I was doing with the LEED program. I define my original work as “This document and the Blueprint that comes with it are designed to aid designers and architects with a basic model of what a LEED-certified design looks like and what goes into a LEED certification.” With this definition, I can then get to what the paper and blueprint do. I define the blueprint as “a visual guide to better understand how the appliances work together in a home and how design is involved in receiving the most certification points.” and the paper will “break down all of the components of the LEED home and explain how and why different appliances work.”.
With this out of the way, I can define my objective for the project and the different categories I have, which are “carbon, energy, water, waste, and material. After these main 5 objectives are achieved, there are also a few less important factors like transportation and human experience (aka design, health, and air quality).”
First I began with Carbon, I highlighted objects like vegetation that have the most oxygen production and devices like induction stoves and different types of water heaters. Because of how complicated environmentally friendly water heaters are, I had to divide the category into 3!
Next, I covered carbon, I talked about the best Showers, toilets, and washing machines. I also found this interesting statistic that 60% of dishwasher owners hand clean their dishes first. Because of this in the paper, I deemed dishwashers a useless middleman that is just a waste of water
Next on the list was Materials and Waste. I didn’t realize originally how extensive this category was. I had to define not only building materials but insulation and glass. This was one of the most interesting categories because I learned about cork, ashcrete, and material wool. Materials that I wasn’t aware of before.
Lastly, I covered Compost and energy, compost was self-explanatory, buying a compost machine is very beneficial and saves a lot of food waste. The energy was more deep, I had to have all of the conserving devices as well as the devices that produce electricity themselves.
After all this, I wrote a description of my house with its appliances and gave citations.
