After completing the Research Speech and ISM Showcase, I had to start working towards my final product. Because of my mentor, I believe that my most obvious course of action for deciding a final product over Environmental Engineering would have to be something related to Solar Panels. I know some things about these panels and how they work, however, if I plan to create any final product based on these panels I would have to spend some time learning about them. Because of this, I have recently been investing my research time into PV Cells. So far I have identified most easily with the simplistic version of a PV cell which SETO describes as “When the sun shines onto a solar panel, energy from the sunlight is absorbed by the PV cells in the panel. This energy creates electrical charges that move in response to an internal electrical field in the cell, causing electricity to flow.” In even simpler terms this means that the semiconductors consume the Energy of the light: When the semiconductor is exposed to light, it absorbs the light's energy and transfers it to negatively charged and positively charged particles, both electrons and their opposite flow are consumed by both the N-type and P-type layers. The Terminals then take the electricity and with both the positive and negative, a flow is created.
