On October 5th, all ISM classes in the Frisco Independent School District will be attending the ISM Symposium. This event's intended purpose is to develop the ISM students' interview abilities and give them an opportunity to network. The symposium will have a group of professionals that will help the ISM students practice pitching themselves to a professional adult. The goal of this practice is to prepare the ISM students for the many cold calls they will make to professionals, hoping for a chance to begin a student-mentor relationship with somebody in their field of study.
Our ISM class has been doing many things to improve our interviewing and interviewee skills in preparation for this event and I believe that through these drills I have made strides toward improvement. Some of these drills included elevator pitches, running interviews with classmates, and running interviews with volunteer teachers.
I am very excited to attend this symposium because I am very eager to improve my interviewing skills so I can be more prepared for the cold calls that are coming up in the ISM syllabus. These cold calls are one of the most important and challenging parts of the entire program so I will take advantage of any and all chances that I have to improve my interview skills for the upcoming cold calls.
